THE ARTICLES OF RELIGION
Methodism began as an interdenominational revival movement. Our mission has always been to uplift Christ and not to be divided by doctrinal systems and creeds. However, there are basic Biblical truths that we hold firmly to. They have been put down for us in The 25 Articles of Religion. The Articles of Religion derived from the Church of England and abridged by John Wesley, Founder of Methodism, for Methodists in America in 1784.

Affirmation of Faith: Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. The third day He arose from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.
**The Apostles' Creed is a statement of belief from the early church. When the creed states, "I believe in the holy catholic church," it refers to the universal church rather than a specific branch of Christianity. The word catholic comes from the Greek word katholikos which means "universal" or "general."
